     Threats to the Earth
 
     
  The debate concerning legitimate threats to the Earth and the economic and social impact have unfortunately become overshadowed by more pressing terrestrial events such as terrorism.  
  When discussions have focused on external threats, it has tended to be sensationalized around "planet killers", rather than the more common and equally threatening events of smaller asteroid hits with the capacity to destroy a city and disrupt the world economy.
